Behind the Scenes: Strain Hunting Trip

(chasing the best genetics for next-level infusions)

Every killer edible starts with killer flower – and the real magic happens on strain hunting trips. These aren't casual dispensary runs; they're deep dives into farms, greenhouses, and pheno hunts to find genetics that translate perfectly into edibles: terp-heavy, clean-burning, balanced effects.

The mission

Goal: Source strains for flavor-forward infusions (chocolates, gummies, beverages) where terps survive extraction and shine in final product.

Priorities: High myrcene/limonene/pinene for couch-lock, uplift, focus. Clean grow (no pesticides). Dense trichome coverage for rosin yield.

Typical trip breakdown (Northern California, fall 2025)

Day 1: Emerald Triangle farms

- Small craft grower with 20+ phenos of Gelato crosses.

- Cupped fresh rosin – one pheno had insane creamy orange terps (locked in 5 lbs).

- Live plant walk: smelled buds on the stem for true expression (what survives in edibles).

Day 2: Indoor pheno hunt facility

- 200-plant run of new crosses (Blue Dream x Wedding Cake, etc.).

- Selected 3 keepers: pineapple-forward sativa hybrid, berry-heavy indica, pine-fuel monster.

- Negotiated live rosin pre-order – fresh frozen for max terp retention.

Day 3: Hash maker collab

- Toured wash room – watched 6-star bubble from legacy strains.

- Sampled fresh press rosin: one OG variant had perfect humulene/caryophyllene for anti-inflammatory caramels.

- Grabbed 100g assorted jars for testing infusions.

Key learns from this run

- Live rosin from fresh frozen > cured flower rosin for edible flavor (terps pop 30–50% stronger).

- Myrcene-dominant indicas make best sleepy chocolates.

- Citrus terps (limonene) survive chocolate best – avoid heavy pine in dark cocoa.

- Always smell the live plant – cured buds lie sometimes.

The haul

- 10 lbs flower (small batch testing)

- 300g live rosin (multiple strains)

- New connections for 2026 drops

These trips are exhausting (12-hour days, constant cupping) but worth it – one perfect strain can define a whole product line.

Next hunt: Oregon indoor for rare terps.

The best edibles come from the best sources.

Hunt accordingly.

Your palate will taste the difference.
