Cannabis-Infused "First Light" Blood Orange & Olive Oil Breakfast Cake

A Note on Dosing: This recipe makes 1 loaf (8-10 slices). We calculate based on a 15% THC flower. You must calculate your own dose based on your cannabis potency. This is a gentle, sun-drenched morning infusion—a tender, citrus-scented cake meant for a slow, shared breakfast in bed. The effects are bright, uplifting, and gradual.

Approximate Dose (using 0.8g of 15% THC flower): ~12mg THC per slice (if divided into 8). Adjust your cannabis amount for desired potency.

Step 1: The Cannabis-Infused Blood Orange Olive Oil

Ingredients:

· 0.8 grams cannabis flower (choose a bright, citrus-forward Limonene-dominant strain)
· 3/4 cup high-quality extra virgin olive oil (fruity, not peppery)
· Zest of 2 blood oranges, removed in wide strips (no pith)

Decarboxylation Method:

1. Preheat oven to 225°F (107°C).
2. Finely grind cannabis flower and spread on parchment-lined baking sheet.
3. Bake for 35-40 minutes until lightly browned and fragrant. Cool completely.

Infusion Method (Cold-Infused for Brightness):

1. In a clean glass jar, combine the olive oil, blood orange zest strips, and decarboxylated cannabis.
2. Seal and store in a cool, dark place for 48 hours, shaking gently once or twice.
3. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth into a measuring cup or jar. Press gently. Discard solids.
4. This is your Cannabis-Infused Blood Orange Olive Oil. Use immediately or store in a cool, dark place for up to 2 weeks.

Step 2: The Cake Assembly

Ingredients:

· 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
· 2 teaspoons baking powder
· 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
· 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
· 3/4 cup granulated sugar
· Zest of 2 blood oranges (finely grated)
· Zest of 1 lemon (finely grated)
· 2 large eggs, room temperature
· 1/2 cup of your Cannabis-Infused Blood Orange Olive Oil
· 1/2 cup plain whole milk yogurt or Greek yogurt
· 1/4 cup fresh blood orange juice (from about 1 orange)
· 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Blood Orange Glaze:

· 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
· 2-3 tablespoons fresh blood orange juice
· 1 teaspoon of your Cannabis-Infused Blood Orange Olive Oil (optional, for a hint more)
· Pinch of sea salt

For Garnish:

· 1 blood orange, thinly sliced into rounds, then halved
· Fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs
· Flaky sea salt
· Edible flowers (optional)

Equipment:

· 9x5 inch loaf pan
· Parchment paper
· Mixing bowls
· Whisk
· Cooling rack

Method:

1. Prepare the Pan:

· Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5 loaf pan and line with parchment paper, leaving overhang on the long sides for easy removal.

2. Infuse the Sugar:

· In a large bowl, combine the granulated sugar with the finely grated blood orange and lemon zests. Use your fingertips to rub the zest into the sugar until it's fragrant, moist, and pale orange. This releases the citrus oils.

3. Wet Ingredients:

· Whisk the eggs into the sugar-zest mixture one at a time, beating well after each addition until pale and frothy.
· Slowly drizzle in the Cannabis-Infused Blood Orange Olive Oil while whisking continuously. The mixture should emulsify and thicken slightly.
· Whisk in the yogurt, blood orange juice, and vanilla until smooth.

4. Dry Ingredients:

· In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
· Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a rubber spatula. Mix until just combined—a few small lumps are okay. Do not overmix.

5. Bake:

· Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
· Arrange the blood orange half-slices gently on top of the batter in a single, overlapping row.
· Bake for 45-55 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
· Let the cake cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then use the parchment overhang to lift it onto a wire rack to cool completely.

6. The Glaze:

· Once the cake is completely cool, whisk together the powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of blood orange juice, the optional teaspoon of infused olive oil, and a pinch of salt. Add more juice if needed to reach a thick, pourable consistency.
· Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake, allowing it to cascade down the sides.
· Before the glaze sets, garnish with fresh rosemary sprigs, a sprinkle of flaky sea salt, and edible flowers if using.

Safety, Storage & The Morning Ritual

CRITICAL NOTES:

⚠️ MORNING INFUSION: This is a breakfast food. It is infused. Do not serve to unsuspecting houseguests or family members.
⚠️ LABEL CLEARLY: Wrap leftovers in parchment and label "CANNABIS-INFUSED - ~12mg PER SLICE." Store separately from regular baked goods.
⚠️ COMMUNICATE: If sharing with a partner, communicate clearly. "This cake is special. Let's start the day slowly together."
⚠️ START WITH A HALF SLICE: Wait 90 minutes. Edibles on an empty stomach can hit faster and harder.
⚠️ CHILD-SAFE STORAGE: Locked, labeled, out of reach.

Storage:

· Room temperature, airtight: 2 days

Romantic Breakfast in Bed Presentation:

Arrange two thick slices of the cake on a wooden board or single plate. Place a small bowl of fresh berries alongside. Pour two glasses of chilled prosecco or fresh blood orange juice. Add a single stem of rosemary or a small vase of flowers. Present on a tray with real linens.

This cake is tender, fragrant, and golden—morning light captured in loaf form. The olive oil keeps it impossibly moist; the blood orange provides gentle sweetness and a whisper of tartness; the cannabis infusion is a warm, glowing undercurrent.
