Decarbing in the Instant Pot – Full Tutorial

What you need
- Instant Pot (any model with Yogurt setting or low temp control)
- 2–10 g flower or kief (scale accurately)
- Mason jar (8 oz or smaller – must fit standing up)
- Jar lid (loose or finger-tight)
- Trivet or silicone sling
- Oven mitts
Step-by-step
1. Prep material
Break flower into popcorn-sized pieces (no grinding – preserves terps).
For kief: spread thin layer in jar.
2. Jar setup
Place material in mason jar → lid on finger-tight (allows pressure release but keeps odor in).
No water in jar – dry decarb only.
3. Instant Pot setup
Add 2 cups water to pot insert → place trivet inside.
Set jar on trivet (standing up).
4. Temperature settings
- Seal valve (important for odor control).
- Yogurt mode on HIGH: ~225–235 °F (good for quick decarb).
- Yogurt mode on LOW or custom Sous Vide at 205 °F: slower, max terp preservation.
5. Time guide
Flower:
- 40–50 minutes on Yogurt HIGH
- 60–90 minutes on LOW/Sous Vide
Kief/hash:
- 30–40 minutes (already partially broken down)
6. Cooling
Natural release (don’t quick vent – smell escape risk).
Wait until pot unlocks → remove jar with mitts → cool completely before opening.

Pro tips
- For zero odor: wrap lid ring with silicone tape or use silicone lid.
