Decarbing Wet Bud – Is It Possible?
(the straight answer on fresh-frozen or undried cannabis activation)

Short version: **Yes, it's possible** to decarboxylate wet/fresh cannabis (including fresh-frozen buds), but it's not ideal. It works, potency converts, but expect longer times, uneven results, and stronger grassy/chlorophyll flavors. Most pros dry first for cleaner, more efficient decarb.

Why it works
THCA → THC conversion is a chemical reaction triggered by heat (around 220–240 °F), not dependent on dryness. Moisture doesn't stop it – it just slows the process because water evaporates first (boiling at 212 °F). Once dry, the bud hits full decarb temp.

Real-world evidence
- Ardent Cannabis (decarb device makers): Fresh and cured bud decarb at the same rate in controlled settings. Fresh just comes out wetter.
- Forum experiences (THCFarmer, Reddit treedibles): People decarb frozen trim/buds successfully – extend time until crispy (60–90+ min vs 40 min dry).
- Some report full activation, just harsher taste from retained chlorophyll.

Downsides of wet decarb
- Longer oven time → risk of degrading THC to CBN (sleepy cannabinoid) or losing terps.
- Stronger "green" hay-like flavor in edibles (chlorophyll doesn't break down as much).
- Uneven heating – steaming inside buds can cause hot spots or mold risk if not fully dried after.
- For fresh-frozen (live resin material): Better to extract first (rosin/hash) – preserves terps without heat decarb.

Best practice
Dry and cure first (7–14 days slow dry) → standard decarb (240 °F / 40 min). Cleaner taste, predictable potency.
If you must use wet (emergency harvest, etc.):
1. Spread thin on parchment.
2. Lower temp (220 °F) longer time (60–120 min).
3. Stir halfway → go until fully dry and toasted brown.

Freeze-drying note
Freeze-drying removes moisture without heat → preserves THCA (no decarb). Great for live products, but you'll still need to heat-decarb after for edibles.

Bottom line
Possible? Absolutely – people do it.
Recommended? No – dry first for superior edibles.
Save wet/frozen for extracts (live rosin = terp heaven).
Decarb smart.
Your edibles will thank you.
