This is the single best way to make stupidly strong, perfectly clean cannabis oil at home. No odor in the house, 95–98 % cannabinoid extraction, shelf-stable for 18+ months, and you literally cannot overcook it.
Makes 2 cups (480 ml) finished oil · 1200–1800 mg total THC (depends on starting material)
What you need
- Sous-vide immersion circulator (Anova, Joule, whatever)
- 1-quart mason jar + lid
- 14–21 g decent flower (18–25 % THC) OR 5–8 g high-quality hash/rosin
- 2 cups (450 g) refined coconut oil OR MCT oil OR extra-virgin olive oil
- 2–3 tsp liquid sunflower lecithin (the magic emulsifier)
- Vacuum sealer or water-displacement method for the jar
Step-by-step
1. Decarboxylate in the same jar (zero smell)
Grind flower medium-coarse. Put flower + lecithin + oil straight into the mason jar.
Finger-tight lid (do NOT seal hard yet).
240 °F sous-vide water bath → 40 minutes exactly for flower, 30 minutes for hash/rosin.
Burp the jar once at the 20-minute mark to release CO₂.
When timer hits zero, drop temp immediately.
2. The 24-hour infusion
Reset sous-vide to exactly 185 °F (85 °C).
Submerge the jar again.
Walk away for 24 hours.
(Yes, really 24. Longer = stronger up to about 36 hours, but 24 is the sweet spot. 185 °F is low enough that nothing degrades, high enough for near-total extraction.)
3. Strain while hot
Pull jar, let cool 5 minutes so you don’t burn yourself.
Strain through a 90–190 micron filter bag or double cheesecloth + fine mesh into a clean bowl.
Squeeze hard. You want every drop.
Let sit 15–30 minutes → any water/particulates sink. Pour off the golden top layer and leave the cloudy bottom tablespoon behind.
4. Final polish (optional but pro)
Reheat clean oil to 180 °F in sous-vide for 10 minutes → kills any remaining microbes without hurting potency.
Cool, lid, label with date + estimated potency.
Potency reality
- 20 g of 20 % flower → ~3800 mg raw THC → ~3400 mg after decarb → 3200–3300 mg extracted → ~1600–1650 mg per cup (6.7–6.9 mg per ml)
- With good hash/rosin you can easily hit 2000+ mg per cup.
