(the brutal truth + the permanent fixes)

Here are the real reasons your butter/oil came out weak, green, harsh, or just plain useless. Ranked from most common to sneaky.

1. You skipped or half-assed decarb

Fix: 240 °F for 40 minutes in a sealed oven bag or mason jar. No exceptions. Undercarb = 50–70 % potency loss. Overcarb = burnt taste and weaker high.

2. You used too little fat

Fix: Minimum ½ cup (113 g) fat per 3.5 g flower. THC needs fat to bind. Skimpy fat = THC left behind in the plant material.

3. You cooked it too hot or too long

Fix: Never exceed 200 °F during infusion (185 °F is perfect). 2–3 hours max for butter, 90 min for oil. High heat destroys terps and turns mild flavor into harsh bitterness.

4. You didn’t strain properly

Fix: Double 90-micron mesh + cheesecloth + press hard. Any plant particles left behind = green taste and lost potency.

5. You used old, brown, or low-quality flower

Fix: Fresh, sticky, lab-tested buds only. Brown shake from the bottom of the jar gives brown oil and 30–40 % less THC.

6. You forgot lecithin

Fix: 1–2 tsp liquid sunflower lecithin per cup of fat. It emulsifies THC so it doesn’t separate later and boosts bioavailability by 20–30 %.

7. You stirred too much or used a blender

Fix: Gentle stir every 30 min. Aggressive agitation creates micro-emulsions that trap THC and make it taste planty.

8. You stored it wrong after making it

Fix: Cool completely → airtight glass jar → fridge or freezer. Light, air, and heat are potency killers.

9. You measured wrong (the silent killer)

Fix: Use a $12 digital scale. Eyeballing “about a gram” can be 30–50 % off.

10. You used tap water or didn’t clarify butter

Fix: Clarify butter first (remove milk solids) or use refined coconut oil. Water-based impurities steal THC and make it separate.

Do these ten things right and your infusion will be golden, odorless, and hit like a freight train every single time. Skip even one and you’re rolling the dice.

Most people fail because they treat infusion like “cooking.” It’s chemistry. Respect the rules and it works 100 % of the time.
